Actor Kal Penn rips Dems for refugee vote
Actor and former White House staffer Kal Penn says he’s “disgusted” by Democrats who broke ranks with the president on his Syrian refugee plan.
“Disgusted to see some House Democrats join crazy Republicans in stoking mass hysteria on the refugee issue,” Penn said in a tweet on Thursday.
He specifically called out Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) for siding with Republicans on whether to pause the refugee relocation program in the wake of last week’s terrorist attacks in Paris.
The House overwhelmingly passed the legislation 289-137 on Thursday, enough to sustain a presidential veto.
Forty-seven Democrats defied President Obama, who has threatened to reject the bill.
A poll released Wednesday found that more than half the country opposes allowing refugees from war-torn Syria into the U.S.
The “Harold & Kumar” star previously worked as the White House’s associate director of public engagement.
