“When you hit him, he devours you. He can’t help himself,” the former House Speaker and 2012 Republican White House hopeful said in a Sunday interview on The Huffington Post’s “Candidate Confessional” podcast.

In the Leonardo DiCaprio-starring movie released last year, a bear (reportedly created using CGI) engages in an über-violent battle with the film’s protagonist.

Gingrich, who heads up his own production company with his wife, Callista, said, “Trump is the grizzly bear in ‘The Revenant.’”

At the presidential debates, Gingrich exclaimed the real estate mogul “creates an environment unlike anything I’ve ever seen.”

When asked by podcast hosts Sam Stein and Jason Cherkis how Gingrich would respond if he were in Trump’s line of fire during a debate, the 72-year-old ex-lawmaker replied with a laugh, “I’d say, beat him up!”
