President Obama has an ambitious reading list for his annual two-week summer vacation on Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.
When he’s not playing golf or spending time with his daughters, the president is perusing five books, according to the White House.
The list includes “The Underground Railroad,” by Colson Whitehead, a new novel about the secret network of abolitionists who helped slaves escape to freedom in the years before the Civil War.
Obama is also reading “Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life,” author William Finnegan’s memoir about his upbringing in Southern California and the president’s home state of Hawaii.
Also on Obama’s list is “H is for Hawk,” by Helen McDonald; “The Girl on the Train,” by Paula Hawkins; and "Seveneves," by Neal Stephenson.
