“I do know he shoots from the hip and he says whatever flies out at the time, and I think the whole campaign knows that,” Maples, who was married to the GOP presidential nominee from 1993 to 1999, tells The Daily Beast in a wide-ranging interview conducted in New York.

“But I also don’t think that his intentions are negative for this country,” Maples says.

Expressing hesitation about revealing too much about her experiences with her ex-husband, Maples says their 22-year-old daughter is just getting to know her father.

“My daughter is back here wanting to get to know her dad and spend more time with him, and I have to really respect that, and I do respect that in every way,” Maples says.

Tiffany Trump graduated college earlier this year and spoke in support of her dad at the Republican National Convention in July. She's the only child of Maples and the real estate mogul, and the second youngest of Trump's five children.

“I was fortunate enough to raise her in California really on my own,” Maples says.

“Of course, as a child, you want to be able to get to know your father better, too,” Maples, who competed earlier this year on “Dancing With the Stars,” tells the news site. “If her father ends up being there [the White House], I’m gonna make sure she’s really prepared with the issues that are important to her and have been important to me as a mom in raising her, that she will be an active part in pushing these things through.”
