McBride, the national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign, became the first openly transgender person to speak at a major party’s convention last year at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Her book, “Tomorrow Will Be Different: Love, Loss, and the Fight for Trans Equality,” will be published in March by by Crown Archetype, according to the Associated Press.

{mosads}In a draft version of his foreword, the AP reports, Biden calls the fight for transgender rights “the civil rights issue of our time.”

“It’s about freeing the soul of America from the constraints of bigotry, hate, and fear, and opening people’s hearts and minds to what binds us all together,” he writes. “That’s what makes Sarah’s book so powerful.”

McBride is from Delaware, the state Biden represented in the Senate for more than 30 years. She helped to lead an effort to pass landmark nondiscrimination legislation in the state after graduating from American University.

At American, she served as student body president, and famously came out as transgender in the campus newspaper at the end of her term.

She was also the first openly transgender woman to work as an intern in the White House.

As a high school student, McBride worked to re-elect Beau Biden as Delaware’s attorney general. Beau, Joe Biden’s son, died in 2015.
