The blockbuster hit is Marvel’s first film with a majority-black main cast. It brought in nearly $500 million in its first weekend, making it the second-highest grossing Marvel film at the domestic box office.
Several Democratic lawmakers shared photos of themselves attending screenings of the movie on its opening weekend.

The Electoral Justice Project, an activist group, also launched a voter registration effort aimed at black voters at screenings of the film.
“This weekend we wanted to meet our people in Wakanda,” the group said. “We know that for some it’s a superhero world, but we know that the world we deserve is still waiting to be built — and we want to build it.”
