Obama shared a photo from her school days as part of #WorldCharityDay, while urging others to post #BackToSchool photos, support the Girls Opportunity Alliance and donate to its GoFundMe page.


"As students here in the U.S. head back to school, let's remember that more than 98 million adolescent girls around the world don't have that opportunity," she tweeted Thursday.

The Girls Opportunity Alliance is run by the Obama Foundation. They reported that out of 750 million illiterate adults in the world, two-thirds are women.

Girls may be denied education due to child labor, early marriage, cost and gender bias among other reasons, according to the Malala Fund.
