Steve Martin jokes Oscars will be blunder-free because they're using 'new Iowa caucus app'

Steve Martin is poking fun at the Iowa caucus vote-counting debacle at the Oscars.

"A couple of years ago there was a big disaster here at the Oscars where they accidentally read out the wrong name," the comedian and "Shopgirl" actor told the crowd at Sunday's Academy Awards. Martin was one of the first presenters to take to the stage alongside comedian Chris Rock.

In a monumental 2017 snafu, "La La Land" was named as the year's best picture before the real winner, "Moonlight," was announced.

"It's nobody's fault," Martin continued to laughs, "but they've guaranteed that this will not happen this year because the Academy has switched to the new Iowa caucus app."

The full results from Monday's caucuses were delayed for days following reporting irregularities and technical difficulties with an app used by caucus officials to send tallies to the state party in Des Moines.
