John Oliver gets his own show — on HBO

John Oliver from “The Daily Show” is jumping to HBO to host his own satirical take on news and politics.

In a Thursday press release, the premium channel announced Oliver’s weekly show will debut on Sunday nights beginning next year.

{mosads}HBO says the show, which will “present a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events,” sounds much like the Comedy Central late night staple.

HBO President Michael Lombardo said that the network wasn’t “searching for another weekly talk show,” but aimed to snag Oliver after seeing him fill in as a guest host for Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show” over the summer while Stewart directed a film.

The British-born writer and comedic actor thanked Comedy Central and Stewart for “the best seven and a half years of my life.”

He said of Stewart, “He taught me everything I know. In fact, if I fail in the future, it’s entirely his fault.”
