Former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) is backing President Obama's controversial prisoner swap.

"I'm glad [Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is] home. I'm glad we made the deal to get him home," Weiner said on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher."

He noted there will be investigations of Bergdahl to assess whether he should be disciplined for allegedly leaving his post before he was captured. Weiner warned against pre-judging Bergdahl, saying he deserves "due process."

Weiner, who resigned from Congress in disgrace amid a Twitter-related sex scandal, mocked Republicans for criticizing the deal.

"This was an honorable thing our country did," Weiner said.

Some Democrats, including Sens. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.) and Joe Manchin (W.Va.), have strongly criticized aspects of the agreement that traded Bergdahl for five senior Taliban leaders.
