A liberal television host says Susan Rice's comments about Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl were "crazy."

In Friday's episode of HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," Maher defended the prisoner swap of Bergdahl for five Taliban leaders who had been detained at Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba.

But he questioned why Rice, Obama's national security advisor, recently said Bergdahl served with "honor and distinction" even though he reportedly wandered off his post in Afghanistan before being captured by the Taliban.

"That was crazy. I agree," said Maher, who contributed $1 million to a super PAC that worked for Obama's reelection in 2012. "That was crazy. Why do that?"

Rice on Friday stood by her comments, saying Bergdahl's decision to serve in a time of war "is a very honorable thing."
