Booker, William Shatner exchange tweets
William Shatner is showing noted “Star Trek” fan Sen. Cory Booker the love on Twitter, chatting about everything from New Year’s resolutions to food preferences with the New Jersey Democrat.
After getting a tweet Sunday from Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in the classic sci-fi television series and films, Booker replied:
Now that you tweeted at me sir, I’m pretty awesome! #HUGEFan RT @WilliamShatner Senator Booker how are you?

The online conversation between the lawmaker and 83-year-old entertainer and former Priceline pitchman then turned to New Year’s resolutions:
A lot. From advance broad based criminal justice reform n Senate to loose weight. You? RT @WilliamShatner What are your resolutions for ’15?

Your resolution is at the core of mine. Determined 2 raise the level of my well being. Fun indeed MT @WilliamShatner My resolution: more fun

Then the unlikely pair got down to business, with Booker — who recently started adhering to a vegan diet, free of foods with animal products — requesting that Shatner include a vegan recipe on a regular Twitter feature:
For food, will u tweet any Vegan options this year? It’d make this Jersey Boy happy MT @WilliamShatner I tweet out National Food of the Day

By the end of the Twitter back-and-forth, the two even appeared close to being foodie friends:
Perhaps we can put together a few experts and create a Shatner/Booker Fun (vegan) Food of the month. @WilliamShatner

Booker, 45, has said his “Star Trek” fandom started at a young age, revealing in a 2012 Reddit chat, “My father and I used to watch the original ‘Star Trek’ and I was hooked. They are some of my greatest memories with my dad.”
