Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld sold his home in northwest Washington, D.C., this week for $3.9 million, nearly $600,000 below his original asking price. 

Rumsfeld publicly listed his 5,115-square-foot brick Kalorama home last summer for $4.5 million. List prices for homes in the neighborhood average $5.7 million, according to real estate website Redfin.

{mosads}The home sits across the street from the French ambassador’s massive 20,000-square-foot residence and is complete with seven bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a backyard brick patio and inlaid pool. 

The former Bush administration official bought the home in February 2001, at the beginning of this six-year term leading the Pentagon, for $3.35 million, according to real estate website Zillow. 

Rumsfeld and wife, Joyce, live in New Mexico and spend time in Montana and on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
