Sen. Claire McCaskillClaire Conner McCaskillRepublicans may regret restricting reproductive rights Sunday shows preview: States deal with fallout of Ida; Texas abortion law takes effect Giuliani to stump for Greitens in Missouri MORE says proof is on the way that she knows how to shotgun a beer.
The Missouri Democrat details in her forthcoming book, Plenty Ladylike, how she learned to guzzle the adult beverage in a fashion favored by college students the night that then-Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) won the 2012 GOP Senate primary election. The win meant Akin would be McCaskill’s opponent in the general election.
When she found out the news, McCaskill says, she had no choice but to make good on a promise she made to her children: “My daughters had to show me how to shotgun a beer.”
In the memoir, McCaskill, 62, goes on to offer a step-by-step manual on the maneuver: “You punch a hole in the side of a beer can while holding it horizontally. Then you invert the can upside down over your mouth and pull the aluminum tab.”
She adds a pro tip: “Beer gushes into your mouth and you have to swallow quickly to avoid a big mess.”
“I did it,” McCaskill writes in the book, due out Aug. 11. “And we laughed until we cried.”
One journalist on Twitter demanded evidence of McCaskill’s shotgunning prowess, writing, “OK, so in order to prove this is legit, Claire McCaskill must shotgun a beer on video.”
And last week, McCaskill made a promise. “Proof of me shotgunning the beer?” she tweeted. “Stay tuned.”
McCaskill’s office did not respond to ITK’s request for comment on the brewski pledge.
