Capitol Christmas tree arrives from Arizona

The annual Capitol Christmas Tree will be set in place on the west lawn of the Capitol at 10 a.m. Monday morning, the 45th such tree since the tradition began in 1964.

This year's tree is an 85-foot blue spruce from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in northeastern Arizona. It will be lit with strands of LED lights and decorated with more than 5,000 ornaments made by Arizona schoolchildren.

On Dec. 8, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will perform the official lighting of the tree at 5 p.m., accompanied by the Arizona congressional delegation as well as Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R).

The tree will be lit at dusk every night through Jan. 1, 2010.
