With family away, Obama enjoys birthday dinner with Oprah and other pals

President Obama didn't get showered with free gifts on his birthday the way many of those who visit Oprah's television show do.

But he did get to dine with the TV personality and her best friend Gayle at graham elliot, a contemporary American restaurant owned by Graham Elliot Bowles of Top Chef Masters fame.

Other friends Eric Whitaker, Marty Nesbitt and Valerie Jarrett all joined in the fun that lasted until around 11 p.m. Wednesday evening.

After dinner, Obama headed back to his Chicago home to spend the night there with first dog Bo. First Lady Michelle Obama is in Spain with younger daughter Sasha visiting friends and older daughter Malia is away at camp. All three spoke to the president on Wednesday to wish him a happy birthday.
