Last time we heard Rep. Jared Polis (D–Colo.) talking about babies was probably when he was criticizing a March speech by President Obama on energy policy . And that wasn't a real baby but a rhetorical one, as in "drill, baby, drill" and the lawmaker's disdain for the phrase as a policy prescription.

Now, however, Polis has a much more personal reason for turning his mind to babies; he will be raising his own bundle of joy very soon.
According to The Denver Post, Polis, 36, and his partner, Marlon Reis, are expecting their first child in September. No other details were given by the soon-to-be parents. Polis is one of only a handful of openly gay lawmakers.

The couple said in a statement on Tuesday that they’re “very excited to become new parents.”
