Actor Anthony Mackie claims he was only joking after an interview where he said he endorsed GOP front-runner Donald TrumpDonald TrumpPredictions of disaster for Democrats aren't guarantees of midterm failure A review of President Biden's first year on border policy  Hannity after Jan. 6 texted McEnany 'no more stolen election talk' in five-point plan for Trump MORE.

"Sorry Donald, that wasn’t an endorsement. Just a bad attempt at a joke, I guess?," Mackie, tweeted Monday afternoon.

In an interview earlier in the day, Mackie spoke enthusiastically about the billionaire businessman.

“I would 100 percent want to run Trump’s campaign — 100 percent,” Mackie told BET host Smriti Mundhra.

“I’m on the bandwagon,” Mackie added. "I’m drinking the Kool-Aid. That would be the best party ever if he won.”

“The Avengers” actor explained Trump’s appeal by citing his success in the real estate market.

“When you look at Trump, he’s an easy sell because you can sell him as the guy who worked his way up from nothing,” Mackie said of the outspoken real estate tycoon.

“And I think if you’re a ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’ candidate, people would identify with that,” he added.

Mackie, though, said he didn't see himself getting into politics if he ever retired from acting.

“I don’t think I could hack it in politics,” he admitted.

“If you question me or say something about my family, I’ll come after you,” Mackie joked. “I’d lose every presidential race as I’d be outside beating somebody up."

Trump has emerged as the front-runner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

He has touted his outsider status and said his vast wealth will keep him from being influenced by special interests or the political establishment.
