Kenny Rogers on Trump: 'I love what he says’

“I love what he says, I have to admit,” he said, according to The Guardian. "I really like him. I think his problem is that he says what everyone wants to hear but he doesn’t say it well. He believes everything he says: whether he’s right or not, he says what everybody fears.”

Rogers argued that Trump’s vast personal wealth gives him an independence rare in modern American politics.

“He can be president and not owe anybody anything,” the singer-songwriter said. "He’s one of the few people that has the money to do it and has the guts to do it. You’re biting off a lot by doing that.”

“The Gambler” performer added that his children, however, do not share his enthusiasm for Trump’s 2016 Oval Office bid.

“My older sons laugh at me when I tell them that,” Rogers said of his praise for Trump. "They are Democrats who live in California [so] there’s no hope for them.

“They’ll vote for Hillary no matter what she does,” he added of Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner. "She’s a friend of mine, I’m not trashing her.”

Trump, who has upended the race for next year’s Republican presidential nomination, currently leads the GOP’s 2016 field by nearly 16 points nationwide, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
