On Thursday, the Republican presidential candidate told reporters that the candy bar was frozen.

“I just bit into a Twix bar and I go, ‘Man this Twix bar’s got something really hard in it,’” Rubio said of the incident, according to The Wall Street Journal. “And I go, ‘Oh my gosh, I cracked my tooth.’”

Rubio assured reporters the incident wasn't painful and he received a temporary fix at the dentist early Thursday morning, intending to get something more permanent when he returns to Miami.

“I think I’m getting old, man," Rubio joked at a South Carolina breakfast with reporters, according to the Journal.

He sat down for some softer food — blueberry pancakes — at an Okatie-area Cracker Barrel where his wife and kids joined him.

The Florida senator is scheduled to campaign in South Carolina for several days ahead of Saturday's GOP debate before the state's primary one week later. Rubio placed a disappointing fifth in New Hampshire's Tuesday primary after bombing in the party's last debate.
