“I know we’ve all been deeply troubled by the revelations of the past 48 hours,” wrote "Today" show producer Noah Oppenheim in a memo to staff.

"Let me be clear — there is simply no excuse for Billy's language and behavior on that tape. NBC has decided to suspend Billy, pending further review of this matter.”

Bush’s status with the show was immediately in question following Friday’s leak, and reports from earlier in the day confirmed he would not appear on Monday’s broadcast.

The leaked tape of the crude conversation between Trump, now the Republican presidential nominee, and Bush has dominated the media landscape and will likely play a large role in the second presidential debate of 2016 tonight.

In a related story, The New York Times first reported on Sunday that calls to Bush's NBC voicemail showed his message had been changed to say in a voice not his: "You've reached Billy Bush's office. He's busy making America great again, please leave a message."

Bush is cousins with George W. Bush and Jeb Bush and nephew to George H.W. Bush.
