The increase took place Jan. 1, though the resort reportedly had been considering a fee increase for some time. The timing could, however, be seen as trying to benefit from the president's election.
The resort was referred to by President Trump as the "Winter White House." Since his election, Trump has visited the resort twice, once for Thanksgiving and again over the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The initiation fee for Mar-a-Lago was set at $100,000 starting in 2012, when it was cut from $200,000.
On top of the initiation fee, members also pay $14,000 a year in annual dues, plus tax.
