Jeff Bridges: 'This aggression will not stand'

Jeff Bridges is borrowing a line from one of his most famous film characters when it comes to the current political situation: “As The Dude might say,” he says, “this aggression will not stand.”

"That's what I think is needed today, to kind of put a check on ourselves and knowing what's right or wrong and being so sure that [President] Trump is an asshole and that he's going to be terrible and all this," Bridges says in an interview with CNN Money published Thursday.

"You can have very strong opinions, but to go after this peace and this beauty that we're after I think we gotta show up and give a little space for something beautiful to bloom out of it."

"We point fingers at people, we point fingers at Trump, he points fingers at people,” the “Big Lebowski” actor and Oscar-nominated star of 2016’s “Hell or High Water” says. “How are we going to come together and realize that we're on this little dust speck in space, you know? Things are finite here, you know. How are we going to work together to make the most beautiful existence that we can, you know?"

Bridges, 67, had said in an interview shortly after Trump’s stunning election victory, “I’m rooting for the guy, but we’ll see how it all goes.”

Bridges told Entertainment Weekly at the time, “One of the things that’s most appealing about him is his unpredictability. A less kind word might be his hypocrisy, but unpredictability and hypocrisy are things that each of us human beings share.”
