Filmmaker Michael Moore on Thursday blasted President Trump’s treatment of Planned Parenthood after he signed a bill that could hurt the group's funding.

Trump signed a bill earlier Thursday nixing an Obama-era rule that kept states from defunding healthcare providers for political reasons.

Democrats say the legislation, which Trump signed in the Oval Office without media present, is aimed at defunding Planned Parenthood.

Former President Obama’s rule required state and local governments to distribute federal Title X funding for services related to contraception, fertility, pregnancy care and cervical cancer screenings.

The rule stipulated that health providers offering those services would receive the funds regardless of whether they also perform abortions. No federal funding may be used for abortion services.

Republicans used the Congressional Review Act to reverse the regulation, which Obama signed during his final months in office.

The bill Trump signed passed the Senate last month following a dramatic tie-breaking vote cast by Vice President Pence.

Republicans argue that cutting Obama’s rule lets states decide how they want to distribute Title X funding.

Dawn Laguens, Planned Parenthood’s executive vice president, on Thursday called Trump’s move the “latest example” of politicians making it harder for women to get healthcare.

“Planned Parenthood strongly opposes President Trump’s willingness to undermine the millions of women’s access to birth control through the Title X family planning program,” she said.

“Four million people depend on the Title X family planning program, and by signing this bill, President Trump disregards their health and well-being.”
