Members of the media who skipped this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner were feted at BuzzFeed’s alternative “Red, White & Banned” party on Saturday evening.
The theme of the rebellious soiree was free booze for a free press — and the drinks were certainly flowing at the Brixton on U Street.
Partygoers sipped on Sean "Spicey" Margaritas and Moscow MOLES; nibbled on sliders, avocado toast and shrimp cocktail; and danced to a DJ spinning hip-hop and pop beats.
Attendees could channel their inner press secretary Sean Spicer in a photo booth replica of the White House briefing room, which even included the same water gun and Barbie doll props featured in a "Saturday Night Live" sketch.
The bash took over all three floors of the Brixton, whose stairs were lined with fake BuzzFeed headlines such as "@realdonaldtrump deletes Twitter" and "Bill ClintonWilliam (Bill) Jefferson ClintonFive takeaways from Arizona's audit results Virginia governor's race enters new phase as early voting begins Business coalition aims to provide jobs to Afghan refugees MORE crippled by fear of balloons."
The packed event included a mix of journalists, political staffers and government workers.
BuzzFeed was the first outlet to begin offering an alternative party back in 2013, after the media organization wasn’t able to secure a table at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
This year, TBS host Samantha Bee also hosted an alternative bash, poised to air as a TV special, the same night as the dinner, which she dubbed the “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.”
