Melania Trump is questioning Kathy Griffin’s "mental health" after the comedian posed for a “disturbing” photo holding a bloody prop meant to resemble President Trump’s severed head.
“As a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing,” the first lady said in a Wednesday statement, according to reports.
“When you consider some of the atrocities in the world today, a photo opportunity like this is simply wrong and makes you wonder about the mental health of the person who did it,” Melania Trump said.
Trump, who married the real estate mogul in 2005, is the latest critic to blast Griffin’s stunt with photographer Tyler Shields.
The president said in a Wednesday tweet that his children were having a hard time coping with the gruesome image:
Hours after the gory photo was first published on TMZ on Tuesday, Griffin — an outspoken Trump opponent — apologized, saying, “I went too far.”
Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 31, 2017
But the apology came too late for a loud chorus of critics on both sides of the aisle. Chelsea Clinton, CNN’s Anderson Cooper — who co-hosts a New Year’s Eve special with Griffin each year — and former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney were a few of the many high-profile critics slamming the photograph.
