Rep. Mike Coffman and his wife are calling it quits.
The five-term Colorado Republican and his spouse, Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman, announced this week that they’ve filed for divorce.
The pair called the move a “painful decision” and a “difficult choice” in a joint statement provided to ITK by the 62-year-old congressman’s campaign spokeswoman.
The couple tied the knot in 2005 “just before [Mike Coffman] deployed to Iraq with the U.S. Marine Corps,” his official congressional biography says.
Calling the decision mutual and private, the Coffmans in their statement asked friends and supporters “for their understanding.”
“We have a great deal of respect for each other,” the statement said, “and will remain each other’s strongest supporters in whatever we do in our continued service to the people of Colorado.”
