Hugh Jackman is reportedly going from Wolverine to former White House contender, playing ex-Sen. Gary Hart in a new movie.

The “X-Men” star will portray the Colorado Democrat and 1988 presidential candidate in the political drama “The Frontrunner,” according to Variety.

The film from Jason Reitman is based on the 2015 book, “All the Truth is Out,” by columnist Matt Bai, about Hart’s political fall from grace. After being considered the frontrunner for the 1988 Democratic nomination, Hart dropped his Oval Office bid amid revelations of an extramarital affair with Donna Rice.

Eventual Democratic nominee Michael Dukakis went on to lose to President George H.W. Bush.

There’s no word on when the film might hit theaters.

Hart, now 80, was tapped to serve as the United States Special Envoy for Northern Ireland in 2014.

The Austalian-born Jackman recently discussed why he dodges talk about American politics in an interview with ITK.

“As an Aussie who actually doesn’t vote — I’d find it hard if I was in Australia and had American actors coming down talking about my political system,” he said earlier this month.

His wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, then jokingly dubbed her actor husband, “Sen. Jackman.”
