Rep. Phil Roe (R-Tenn.), says House Majority Whip Steve Scalise is up and out of bed after being shot last month — and the Louisiana Republican is already getting invites for fall outings.

“[He’s] just out of bed,” Roe, a physician, told local news station WJHL-TV in a Tuesday interview.

“He’s had a very, very, serious injury,” Roe said. “He’s not able to eat yet, but he is getting better.”

Scalise, 51, is currently recovering at a Washington hospital after being shot in the hip when a gunman opened fire at a park in Alexandria, Va., on June 14. GOP lawmakers were practicing for an annual charity baseball game at the time.

MedStar Washington Hospital Center doctors upgraded the lawmaker to “fair condition” late last month.

Four others — two Capitol Police officers, a congressional aide and a lobbyist — were also injured in the shooting.

Roe said years before the shooting, he had urged Scalise to take a trip to Pigeon Forge, Tenn.  — also known as the home of Dollywood — and that the Louisiana congressman was supposed to be there this week for a family vacation.

While summer travels may be out, Roe, 71, told the Tennessee station he’s already filling up his colleague’s fall schedule.

“I’ve invited him to the LSU-UT football game in November,” Roe said of the showdown between the University of Tennessee and Scalise’s beloved Louisiana State University Tigers. “Hopefully he’ll be well enough then.”

Roe also revealed that he recently texted Scalise a video message from him and 150 lawmakers wishing him well.
