David revealed the discovery on Wednesday at a panel for "Curb Your Enthusiasm" at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

David said he was "very happy" to learn about his connection to the Vermont senator.

"I thought there must be some connection," he said. "I love Bernie."

David couldn't remember exactly how the two are related, but said Sanders was "like a third cousin or something."

Sanders joked about his resemblance to the actor during a CNN town hall last year, quipping: “I am Larry David.”

"Anderson, I know you've been in journalism for a long time," Sanders said to anchor Anderson Cooper. "I am Larry David."
