‘Star Trek: Discovery’ cast takes a knee

Members of the cast of “Star Trek: Discovery” took a knee Sunday hours after a number of NFL players protested during the national anthem.

The show’s lead actress, Sonequa Martin-Green, posted a photo of the cast taking a knee Sunday night, showing unity with NFL players just hours after the show’s premiere.

She captioned it with the hashtag “#takeaknee.”

President Trump went after NFL players who take a knee during the anthem at a campaign rally Friday night, calling for NFL owners to “get that son of a bitch off the field” and to fire players who participate in the protest.

{mosads}”When people like yourselves turn on television and you see those people taking the knee when they are playing our great national anthem — the only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it’s one player, leave the stadium,” Trump said. “I guarantee things will stop.”

He doubled down on his criticism of the players throughout the weekend and into Monday morning.

NFL players fired back by protesting during the national anthem throughout the day on Sunday. Players knelt, sat or locked arms in solidarity, while three teams remained in their locker rooms during the anthem.

NFL free agent Colin Kaepernick began kneeling during the anthem to protest police misconduct and racial injustice last season.
