A group high profile Hollywood stars, including Rihanna and Kim Kardashian, are using their social media platforms to protest the life sentencing Cyntoia Brown received when she was 16-years old.

Rihanna, who has more than 58 million followers, put the spotlight on Brown's case on Tuesday in an Instagram post that used the hashtag #FreeCyntoiaBrown.

Brown, now 28, says a violent boyfriend forced her into prostitution when she was a young teenager. She was sentenced to life behind bars at the age of 16 for murdering a man after he picked her up and took her to his home in 2004.

Kim Kardashian also weighed in and said she has directed her attorneys to "see what can be done to fix this.”

“The system has failed,” Kardashian tweeted on Tuesday.

“It’s heartbreaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life! We have to do better & do what’s right.”

Other high profile figures, including model and actress Cara Delevingne and rapper Snoop Dogg, have shone a light on the Tennessee case.

A MoveOn.org petition posted online has already received over 200,000 electronic signatures of people who support Brown's release.

Brown is not eligible for parole until her late 60s.
