“That’s the thing that Joe Biden said to us as he got into the limo and left the Capitol on Inauguration day,” Karen Pence, the vice president's wife, tells Virginia Coyne in the holiday “Social List” issue of Washington Life magazine released Monday. “He said, ‘you’re gonna love the pool.’ ”

Karen Pence says she now takes a swim each day in the heated pool at the vice president’s residence in Washington. The pool and pool house were added to the grounds at One Observatory Circle in 1991 when then-Vice President Quayle lived in the digs.

And Pence, 59, doesn’t go for her daily dip alone — she’s joined by one of the family’s pets, an Australian shepherd named Harley, for her aquatics routine. Harley was a surprise gift for the VP from his family for Father’s Day in June.

While they may be on opposite sides of the political spectrum, Karen Pence says she and her spouse see eye-to-eye with the Bidens when it comes to interior decorating. They loved the way the Bidens had arranged the library so much that “we pretty much made it very, very similar.”

“They had a leather couch in there,” Pence says in the inside peek at the vice president’s home. “They had four chairs. We set it up the same way.”
