George Clooney is taking on the infamous Watergate scandal of the 1970s in a potential Netflix series.

According to Deadline, Clooney is developing the limited eight-part series on the scandal that prompted the resignation of then-President Richard Nixon.

The actor and his production company Smokehouse Pictures are working with Matt Charman, the writer for the 2015 legal-thriller "Bridge of Spies," on the project.

According to Deadline, each episode of the Watergate series would focus on a different individual tied to the scandal.

The Watergate scandal hinged on the Nixon administration's efforts to cover up its involvement in a break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate Hotel and Office Complex in Washington.

Nixon resigned from office in 1974 amid impeachment proceedings in Congress.
