“You know, the truth is the president is a racist, which is very sad and I’m disheartened by policies that are xenophobic and sexist,” the “Get Out” director tells “CBS Sunday Morning’s” Tracy Smith in a preview clip from the show, released Friday.

“What does give me hope is,” Peele, 38, continued, “Obama said — used to say, you know — ‘progress isn’t always a straight line.’”

“Who knows how true it is, but I believe it,” said the comedian, who used to play Obama on his Comedy Central show.

The first-time director said he’s been “encouraged” by the response to “Get Out,” which deals heavily with race in a horror-movie setting and has generated Oscar buzz.

“I’m seeing many other examples of art and film and television that are expressing these pains, frustrations, love, in new ways, and that they’re being received,” said Peele. “And that I think will create progress.”
