GOP trolls Dems with 'I shut down the government' t-shirt

The Senate GOP’s fundraising arm is engaging in a bit of sartorial trolling, offering Democrats “I shut down the government” t-shirts.

In a snark-filled Tuesday email to supporters, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) says it “decided to get Senate Dems a little something to remember the Schumer Shutdown by so they won’t walk away totally empty-handed.”

The note bears an image of a shirt sporting the message: “I shut down the government, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.”

“The NRSC will be giving a Schumer Shutdown t-shirt, manufactured right here in the U.S.A. as our economy continues to boom under GOP leadership, to Senate Democrats so that they won’t forget what happens when they shut down the federal government for no reason and with no endgame in mind,” the NRSC’s email says.

Both parties blamed each other for the three-day government shutdown that ended Monday. The shutdown went into effect over the weekend after Democrats and some Republicans blocked a House-passed temporary spending bill that would have lasted through Feb. 16.

“We went in with a very weak set of cards, with [25] people up for reelection,” one Democratic senator told The Hill on Tuesday.
