Streisand: Trump bears some blame for Parkland shooting

Barbra Streisand says President Trump shoulders some of the blame for a Florida high school shooting that killed 17 people.
“I think even that shooter was affected because Trump brings out the violence in people,” Streisand told Variety in an interview published Tuesday. “He says, ‘It’s OK — rally, lock her up.’ ”
{mosads}Police charged 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz in the attack earlier this month at a high school in Parkland, Fla. Authorities have not released details of any motive.
The “Funny Girl” star, who supported Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, also said she doubts that Trump legitimately won the White House race.
“I really believe she won the election,” Streisand said of Clinton.
“I’ve talked to senators from Michigan and Wisconsin. I do believe, like I believed during Bush, they were playing with those voter machines,” said the Oscar winner, who is one of Hollywood’s most prominent Democrats.
“And [former Vice President Al Gore] lost by 537 votes out of 104 million. And now, in retrospect, [former President George W.] Bush looks quite good compared to Trump. At least he’s not mean-spirited. He’s not a guy who is retaliating for what Obama did at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” she said.
Streisand, 75, said she’s been in touch with Clinton since her election loss and shared a message with her: “I said to her the last time I saw her, ‘You were just too smart.’ ”
Streisand said she even tended to Clinton on the campaign trail, when the White House hopeful famously called Trump supporters “a basket of deplorables” at a New York City fundraiser in 2016.
“She was sick,” Streisand said of Clinton’s health that day. “I was giving her tea. I was like, ‘Here, these are good lozenges, and you’re coughing and you got to keep drinking liquids.’ I didn’t know she had pneumonia.”
Streisand, a fierce critic of Trump, knocked the president for his campaign rhetoric, telling Variety for its Oscars issue, “Everything he called Hillary, he is.”
