But MSNBC and NBC News bucked the trend, opting not to nix their 2017 festivities at the Organization of American States in downtown Washington.
ITK hears that once again this year, the networks will make a donation to the National Press Club’s Diversity Scholarship in celebration of the First Amendment and to support the next generation of journalists.
The networks aren’t the only cable newsers that will party on during the weekend of the April 28 correspondents’ dinner, which raises money for journalism scholarships.
CNN is also planning on bringing back its “Political Hangover” brunch, held the morning after the dinner. While Matt Dornic, CNN’s vice president of communications, was mum about this year’s theme for the soiree at the Longview Gallery, he told ITK it will be “the weirdest and wildest ‘Political Hangover’ yet.”
The network, Dornic said, is “[going] to extremes to top last year’s event,” which featured a carousel bar, stilt walkers, sword swallowers and a ferris wheel of goodies.
