The episode's cold open depicted Baldwin as Trump and Kate McKinnon as President Dalia Grybauskaitė of Lithuania at a joint press conference. 

Baldwin's Trump touches on a number of recent headlines in the skit, including reports that he congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin despite specific instruction not to do so. 


“Before I turn over to these freak shows here, I just want to read a prepared statement to prove that I can read,” Baldwin’s Trump said. “Do not congratulate Putin."

He then continued on saying: “Time to freestyle. First of all, a big congratulations to Vladimir Putin … even though no one’s been tougher on Russia than I am, including Hitler.”

Baldwin's Trump also said he was trying to rush through the briefing because he's "got a lot of trade wars to escalate here." 

The skit also poked at Trump's recent feud with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, with Baldwin's Trump admitting: “He’s way richer than me and he admits to being bald so I feel threatened on two levels.”

The press briefing ended with SNL's Trump also admitting the presidency is a "cash grab."

“I don’t care about America," he says. "This whole presidency is a four-year cash grab and admitting that will probably get me four more years.”
