Spokeswoman: Melania Trump hasn’t ‘discussed her thoughts’ with Giuliani
A spokesperson for Melania Trump on Thursday said the first lady has had no discussions with Rudy Giuliani in response to questions about his remarks that she believes her husband did not have an affair with adult-film star Stormy Daniels.
“I don’t believe Mrs. Trump has ever discussed her thoughts on anything with Mr. Giuliani,” Stephanie Grisham, the first lady’s communications director, said in a statement to The Hill.
Grisham’s statement was also made to other media.
Maggie Haberman of The New York Times first reported Grisham’s response.
The unusual statement comes one day after Giuliani, who is working as an attorney for the president, said during an appearance at the Globes Capital Market Conference in Israel that the first lady believes her husband.
“She believes her husband and she doesn’t think it’s true,” Giuliani said, arguing that Daniels has no credibility because of her profession.
Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, went public earlier this year with claims that she and Trump had an affair in 2006, around a year after the now-president and first lady were married.
Daniels is suing Trump and his attorney Michael Cohen to void a $130,000 nondisclosure agreement related to the alleged affair she signed weeks before the presidential election.
She is also suing Trump and Cohen for defamation over their denials of her story.
Melania Trump has not publicly commented on Daniels’s allegations against her husband.
Giuliani, who joined Trump’s legal team in April, additionally weighed in on Wednesday about whether Melania Trump believed her husband would win the 2016 election.
“Women always think that their husbands will win. Trump is a real gentleman who respects his wife and loves his daughter and has a warm relationship with his ex-wives,” the former New York City mayor said.
