ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel slammed President TrumpDonald John TrumpTrump rages against '60 Minutes' for interview with Krebs Cornyn spox: Neera Tanden has 'no chance' of being confirmed as Biden's OMB pick Pa. lawmaker was informed of positive coronavirus test while meeting with Trump: report MORE on Monday over his recent threat toward Iran, implying it was intended to divert attention from the president's summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week.

Trump had issued a fiery threat aimed at Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday night, appearing to threaten war if Iran's government continues to issue threats toward the U.S. and its allies.

Kimmel questioned during his show's monologue why Trump has reacted so "strongly" to Rouhani, while noting Trump had allowed Putin to "practically run his fingers through his hair.”

“The president was up past his bedtime last night, lashing out after the president of Iran said America should know that peace with Iran is the ‘mother of all peace’ and war with Iran is the ‘mother of all wars,’ ” the ABC host joked. “And to that Trump responded with the mother of all-caps.”

“ 'Remember what I previously said — Obama will someday attack Iran in order to show how tough he is,' ” Kimmel added, quoting a Trump tweet from September 2013. “Now look at who’s threatening Iran to show how tough he is.”

“Could it be that Trump is trying to use Iran to distract us from whatever he’s up to with Russia?” he asked.

In his tweet to Rouhani, Trump had threatened "CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE” if Iran continued to threaten the United States.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif fired back Monday in his own caps-lock-infused tweet, mocking Trump and urging the U.S. to "be cautious."

"COLOR US UNIMPRESSED," Zarif tweeted. "The world heard even harsher bluster a few months ago. And Iranians have heard them —albeit more civilized ones—for 40 yrs."

Zarif added that "we’ve been around for millennia & seen fall of empires, incl our own, which lasted more than the life of some countries. BE CAUTIOUS!"
