NBA star LeBron James is teaming up with Showtime to produce a three-part documentary series on the role of athletes in America's current cultural climate, the network said Monday.

The series, titled "Shut Up and Dribble," will take "a powerful inside look at the changing role of athletes in our fraught cultural and political environment," the Los Angeles Times reported.

The title is a reference to a comment made earlier this year by Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who responded to political statements from James by telling him to "shut up and dribble."

"Must they run their mouths like that?” Ingraham asked in February. “Unfortunately, a lot of kids and some adults take these ignorant comments seriously."

"Look, there might be a cautionary lesson in LeBron for kids," she continued. "This is what happens when you attempt to leave high school a year early to join the NBA. And it's always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball."

The three-part series will chronicle the evolution of the NBA and its players in the decades since the 1976 merger of the American Basketball Association (ABA) with the NBA.

The series is set to debut in October, according to the Times.

The announcement comes after President TrumpDonald John TrumpJulián Castro: It's time for House Democrats to 'do something' about Trump Warren: Congress is 'complicit' with Trump 'by failing to act' Sanders to join teachers, auto workers striking in Midwest MORE laced into James and CNN host Don Lemon in a tweet on Saturday, in which he insulted both men's intellects.

In his interview with Lemon, the NBA star had expressed concern that Trump had sought to use professional sports and athletes to divide the country.
