Julia Louis-Dreyfus: ‘Not enough’ to vote for Democrats, you also need to volunteer

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is taking a break from playing a president on TV to wade into real-life politics, urging Democrats not only to vote in the midterm elections, but to volunteer.

“A corrupt, self-obsessed, inept moron who somehow becomes president of the United States — that’s the character that I play on HBO’s ‘Veep,’ ” Louis-Dreyfus says in a video released Tuesday by Local Majority, a Democratic PAC.

{mosads}“But when I’m off of TV, I’m not a politician. I’m not an expert. I’m a citizen. And I know the midterm election on Nov. 6 is beyond important, it’s vital,” the 57-year-old Emmy Award-winner says to the camera.

“I mean, sure, I’m going to vote Democrat … but that’s not enough. We need more than just your votes,” Louis-Dreyfus says, pushing Americans to “multiply their votes” by volunteering for campaigns.

“I’m a cancer survivor, and I’m really lucky because I had access to excellent health insurance, even with a pre-existing condition, and that’s the way it should be for absolutely everybody — and it’s not,” adds Louis-Dreyfus, who revealed last September that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

“The Republican Congress is making it worse, but the Democrats can change that.”

“Every campaign needs volunteers to write postcards, to make phone calls, to register folks to vote,” says Louis-Dreyfus.

The former “Seinfeld” star has criticized President Trump before, saying during a 2016 Emmys acceptance speech: “I’d also like to take this opportunity to personally apologize for the current political climate.”

“I think that ‘Veep’ has torn down the wall between comedy and politics. Our show started out as a political satire, but it now feels more like a sobering documentary,” Louis-Dreyfus said at the time.

“I’m really hoping this video will encourage people not just to vote in November, but to also volunteer now for Democrats across our great nation,” Louis-Dreyfus said in a statement on Tuesday. “Let’s get this done.”
