The Church of Satan is applauding actor Christian Bale after he thanked Lucifer for inspiring him on how to play former Vice President Dick Cheney.

While accepting a Golden Globe award Sunday night for best actor in a comedy for his depiction of Cheney in “Vice,” Bale drew laughs when he said, “Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration on how to play this role.”

The Church of Satan responded in a tweet posted Sunday: “Hail Christian! Hail Satan!”

The Church of Satan, which is separate from the Satanic Temple, describes itself as an atheist organization and does not actually believe in or worship Satan.
