The pair, who both play for the Orlando Pride, first met nearly a decade ago. They had not previously confirmed that they were in a relationship, People noted.
“We wanted to be professional and make sure that we showed up every day and did our job and it wasn’t just because we were together, it was because we love what we do, and we’re really good at what we do,” Krieger told People. “And that was most important for us.”
A Twitter account for the FIFA Women's World Cup congratulated the couple. Harris will be representing the U.S. at this year's competition.
The pair received congratulations from others on social media, including Virginia House Del. Danica Roem (D).
