J.J. Abrams, Shonda Rhimes to host Kamala Harris fundraiser

Several Hollywood stars including Star Wars director J.J. Abrams and producer Shonda Rhimes are hosting a fundraiser for Kamala HarrisKamala HarrisButtigieg stands in as Pence for Harris's debate practice First presidential debate to cover coronavirus, Supreme Court Harris joins women's voter mobilization event also featuring Pelosi, Gloria Steinem, Jane Fonda MORE's 2020 presidential campaign on Wednesday.

The fundraiser was described as “reception in support of Kamala Harris for the People” and Harris will likely attend, according to an invitation the Associated Press obtained.

The co-chairs of the event each donated $10,000 and tickets to the event cost $2,800 each, according to the invite. 


The event will be held at Abrams's home, and its co-chairs include Rhimes, Universal Pictures chair Donna Langley and  “Lost” co-creator Damon Lindelof, the AP reported.

The evening event was first reported on last month by Variety. Abrams and his wife, producer Katie McGrath, have long been Democratic donors.  

Harris also recently rubbed shoulders with another Star Wars personality. She met actor Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the franchise, as they both appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Tuesday. 

This isn't Harris' first Hollywood fundraiser.

Universal Filmed Entertainment Group Chairman Jeff Shell reportedly held an event in support of her candidacy last month.
