Comedian Chris Rock on Saturday mocked Jussie Smollett, who has been at the center of a firestorm regarding his claim that he was the victim of a hate crime, asking, "What the hell was he thinking?"

"They said no Jussie Smollett jokes. Yeah, I know. I know. What a waste of light skin. You know what I could do with that light skin? That curly hair? My career would be out of here. F---ing running Hollywood," Rock said.

"What the hell was he thinking?" the comedian added. "You’re Jessie from now on. You don’t even get the 'u' no more. That 'u' was respect. You ain't getting no respect from me."

Smollett was charged earlier this month on several felony counts after prosecutors accused him of filing a false report when he said he was the victim of a hate crime.

Those charges, however, were dropped last week, with prosecutors in Cook County, Ill., saying they believed that the outcome was a "just disposition and appropriate resolution" to the case.

Anthony Anderson, the host of Saturday's NAACP Image Awards, told Variety that he was happy the charges against Smollett were dropped.

"I’m happy for him that the system worked for him in his favor because the system isn’t always fair, especially for people of color," Anderson said.

Smollett was reportedly edged out for the award for best supporting actor in a television drama this year and did not attend the dinner.
