Author George RR Martin backs Biden's candidacy

George R.R. Martin, author of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series that became the basis for HBO's “Game of Thrones,” said in a weekend blog post that he's glad to see former Vice President Joe BidenJoe BidenKlain on Manchin's objection to Neera Tanden: He 'doesn't answer to us at the White House' Senators given no timeline on removal of National Guard, Capitol fence Overnight Defense: New Senate Armed Services chairman talks Pentagon policy nominee, Afghanistan, more | Biden reads report on Khashoggi killing | Austin stresses vaccine safety in new video MORE seeking the White House in 2020.

"There are a lot of good Democrats running, maybe too many, and I’d probably vote for any one of them over the present blot upon the Oval Office," Martin said on his personal blog Saturday.

"The main things I want in a nominee, however, are twofold: (1) someone who can beat Trump, and (2) someone who would actually be a good/ great president," he added. "Biden qualifies on both counts."

Martin praised Biden's campaign launch speech as "kickass" and "so true."

Biden has been openly critical of Trump during the first few days of his campaign, lamenting that the president has hurt American values and calling him a "clown."

The former vice president is one of more than 20 candidates running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020. Biden has been at or near the top of most Democratic primary polls and received a boost in the aftermath of his campaign announcement.

Martin has previously compared Trump to King Joffrey in "Game of Thrones." Joffrey, a teenage ruler, was the main antagonist of the first few seasons of the hit show before meeting his demise at his own wedding.
