Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II (D) on Tuesday shared a photo of a broken gavel, joking that he was inspired by Marvel Studios’ latest movie “Avengers: Endgame.”

“That feeling when you went to see #AvengersEndgame and were a little too inspired by Thor…,” the lieutenant governor wrote of the broken gavel, citing the God of Thunder who wields a hammer.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) responded with a gif of the god of thunder, portrayed in the movies by Chris Hemsworth, in action.

Marvel announced on Sunday that the blockbuster film crossed the $2 billion mark at the global box office just 11 days after its release, making it the fastest any film to reach that threshold.

It is now the No. 2 largest release of all time behind only “Avatar,” which garnered $2.788 billion, passing previous records set by “Titanic.”
