The Alabama elementary school teacher who went viral with a video of her students singing a math-themed version of “Old Town Road Remix” was gifted $10,000 on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” this week.

Jasmine Merlette, a third grade teacher at Sun Valley Elementary School in Birmingham, posted a video of her class signing the remix of the song by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus.

She revamped the lyrics to help her students combat anxiety and feel energized before their annual state testing and the video quickly spread online with more than 12 million views across various social media platforms.

Merlette was invited to appear on “The Ellen Degeneres Show” with guest host Wanda Sykes and said that her students did well on their testing after the video was made.

She works at an elementary school that serves low-income communities and said that there are students in her classroom who have difficult home-life situations.

“But that’s why I make sure that my classroom knows when we come in here, it doesn’t matter what’s going on out there," Merlette told Sykes. "We came here to learn, we’re going to do this.”

Merlette, a first-year teacher, is part of an education nonprofit called Teach for America that advocates for educational equity.

Sykes presented the teacher with a lottery scratch-off before bringing out a $10,000 check from the talk show’s partnership with Shutterfly.
